Why brands hire designers through MakeMine, not Upwork
Vetted, not crowdsourced
Open marketplaces list thousands of profiles with no experience floor. Every MakeMine designer has spent 10+ years designing for established brands. We reviewed their portfolios, verified their work history, and have seen their tech packs in production.
Free, structured interviews
Tell us your category and product, and we shortlist up to two designers for complimentary interviews. No job posts, no bid sorting, no portfolio roulette.
Design connected to production
Your designer's tech packs move directly into MakeMine's managed production process, from fabric sourcing through sampling to bulk. The person who spec'd your garment stays involved when the factory has questions. That continuity is what marketplaces can't offer.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a freelance apparel designer?
Every designer sets their own rates, but here's a realistic ballpark. Full design development for a new style, from mood board through sketches, CAD, and a production-ready tech pack, typically runs $1,000 to $1,500 per style. Hourly rates for ongoing development work like fittings and factory comments typically run $125 to $150 per hour. Most designers offer bulk discounts when you're designing 4 or more styles, and lower rates for repeat clients. You'll get exact pricing during your free interviews before committing to anything.
How much does a tech pack cost?
It depends on garment complexity. As a ballpark, a production-ready tech pack for a simple garment (tees, tanks, biker shorts) typically runs $400 to $700. Mid-complexity pieces like hoodies, leggings, and swimwear run $500 to $900. Complex garments like outerwear, high-impact bras, and intricate dresses run $700 to $1,250. If you're replicating an existing garment with a few changes rather than designing from scratch, you'll be at the lower end of these ranges. Because MakeMine designers build tech packs that go directly into our production process, revision cycles with the factory are shorter.
Can I hire a technical designer for just a tech pack?
Yes. Many brands hire our technical designers for scoped engagements: a single tech pack, grading an existing spec, or fixing fit issues on a style already in production. There’s no minimum engagement.
What qualifications do your designers have?
All of our freelance apparel designers bring extensive experience from working with both established, global brands and innovative startups. This blend of expertise ensures they understand what it takes to design for successful brands while also catering to the fast-paced and creative demands of small businesses.
