Hat & Headwear Manufacturing

We manage end-to-end headwear production for lifestyle brands — from cut-and-sew bucket hats to rope hats, truckers, and event merch programs.

Let's Talk

Who we produce for

Sports and team lifestyle brands

Pro-style rope hats with rubber patches. Snapbacks with woven patches. A blank program you decorate per team, per camp, per season. We build repeatable headwear programs — consistent crown shape, consistent patch placement, consistent color — so your tenth reorder matches your first.

Premium apparel brands adding headwear

Your bucket hat should match your collection — same gingham, same terry, same toile as the apparel it ships with. We already manage your category’s fabric sourcing, so the hat comes from the same development process, not a separate vendor with a different lab dip. For childrenswear brands, we handle CPSIA compliance on every component.

Streetwear and event merch brands

You’re producing licensed or drop-based headwear with hard deadlines — a championship weekend, a tournament, a collab launch. We’ve run full headwear programs for major golf championship merch: foam truckers, rope hats, A-frames, dad hats, and snapbacks, delivered on dates that don’t move. When the event happens with or without your product, production can’t be left to a factory you found on Alibaba.

What headwear actually requires

Most “hat manufacturers” are decorators putting embroidery on Richardson and Yupoong blanks. That works until you need a crown shape they don’t stock, a fabric that matches your apparel line, or a margin structure that survives retail. Custom headwear is a cut-and-sew category with its own technical requirements:

Crown and panel construction

Structured or unstructured. Five, six, or seven panels. Buckram weight determines how the front panel holds your logo; crown height determines whether it reads pro-fit or dad hat. We spec it — most factories just quote it.

Fabric development, not fabric selection

Sunwashed twill, looped terry, gingham, toile, straw, foam-and-mesh, performance poly. When the hat belongs to a collection, we match it to the apparel fabric — same mill where possible, lab-dipped where not.

Decoration method selection

Flat embroidery, 3D puff, scrambled-eggs brim embroidery, woven patches, rubber (PVC) patches, leather patches, rope details, sublimated undervisors. The wrong method on the wrong fabric ruins the hat. We match method to material and to your price point.

Compliance and componentry

Snapback closures, brass sliders, drawcords, and patches all carry compliance requirements — especially in childrenswear, where CPSIA testing on components is non-negotiable. We manage testing and documentation as part of production, not as an afterthought.

How a scaling brand works with us

Anonymized client snapshots

Regional streetwear brand — licensed major-championship merch program. 15+ styles in one program: foam truckers, rope hats, A-frames, unstructured crowns, dad hats. Multiple decoration methods across one hard deadline. Delivered before the first tee time.

Sports lifestyle brand — repeatable pro rope hat program. Rubber patch, woven patch, and blank variants on a consistent pro-fit crown. A reorder program their team stores and camps pull from season after season.

Premium childrenswear brands — collection-matched bucket hats. Looped terry, gingham, rain-ready nylon, and straw golf hats developed to match each season’s apparel drop, with CPSIA compliance handled on every run.

What it actually costs

Blank-plus-embroidery decorators price per piece and keep the margin story simple — until you’re paying blank-catalog prices at 5,000 units. Custom cut-and-sew headwear at volume typically lands well below decorated-blank pricing, and you own the design. We publish a line-item breakdown on every quote:

  • FOB cost per unit: production cost, laid out by style
  • Sample fees: charged at factory cost, typically $30–$75 per headwear sample
  • Duties: calculated on FOB, not on a marked-up number
  • Shipping & logistics: air or ocean, with tracking and customs handled

The process

1. Submit tech packs or reference samples

A reference hat works when tech packs don’t exist. We reverse-engineer crown, brim, and construction.

2. Get matched with the right factory

Routed by construction, fabric, decoration, and volume — not just the cheapest quote.

3. Review pricing, MOQs, and lead times

Line-item breakdown. No hidden fees. MOQs start at 100 units per style/color.

4. Approve fit and golden samples

2–3 sample rounds standard. Component and CPSIA testing available.

5. Place your PO and track production

Inspections, logistics, and customs handled. Real-time status in one dashboard.

6. Scale

When a style takes off, we route to higher-capacity partners without breaking your supply chain.

Frequently asked questions

Still got questions?

What kinds of hats can you manufacture?

Structured and unstructured baseball caps, dad hats, snapbacks, pro-fit rope hats, foam and mesh trucker hats, A-frames, five-panels, bucket hats (twill, terry, nylon, straw), golfer hats, visors, and kids' headwear. We've produced 45+ headwear SKUs across streetwear, sports, golf, and childrenswear brands.

Are you a custom hat manufacturer or a decorator?

We manage custom cut-and-sew production — your crown shape, your fabric, your labels — through a vetted factory network. We are not a blank-plus-embroidery decorator. Brands that want to own the design and construction of their headwear work with us; brands that need 48 embroidered blanks for an event are better served by a decorator.

What are your MOQs for hats?

MOQs start at 150 units per style per colorway. Total order volume and production frequency are taken into consideration before MakeMine and our factory partners accept a PO.

What are your lead times for headwear?

Typically 20–30 days for samples and 40–60 days for production, depending on fabric sourcing, decoration complexity, and factory capacity at the time of PO. For event merch with hard deadlines, we build the calendar backward from your in-hands date before we accept the PO.

Where are your hat factories?

We manage production through vetted headwear factories in our Asia network, routed by construction and fabric. You get a US-based point of contact in Charlotte, North Carolina, and US business hours while your production runs at factories equipped for the category.

Can you match a hat to our apparel collection?

Yes — this is one of the most common reasons brands move headwear to us. If we're already managing your apparel production, we develop the hat from the same fabric program: same gingham, same terry, same lab dips. If we're not, send the apparel fabric spec and we'll match it.

Do you handle patches, embroidery, and specialty decoration?

Flat and 3D puff embroidery, woven patches, rubber (PVC) patches, leather patches, rope details, brim embroidery, and sublimated components. We select the method based on your fabric, crown structure, and price point — and we'll tell you when a method won't hold up.

Can you produce hats for kids?

Yes. We produce children's bucket hats and caps for premium childrenswear brands, with CPSIA component testing and documentation managed as part of the production run.

Do I talk to the factories or do you take care of communication?

We handle all factory communication. Our customers know the name of their factory and MakeMine's point of contact — the factories aren't hidden — but we manage the relationship so you don't take 2 A.M. messages or navigate language and time zone gaps.

How do you vet hat factories?

Our supply chain team meets with every partner factory in person. We perform ongoing audits and use third-party inspectors on production runs. Component and lab testing are available on request.

Talk to the people who'll actually run your account.

No SDR gauntlet. You'll talk to the team that receives your inventory, picks your orders, and answers when something goes sideways. Send us your monthly order volume, SKU count, and channels — we'll send back real numbers.
